Engagement Models

This page explains how I typically work with organizations. It describes how I operate inside an organization, depending on the situation, mandate, and level of executive ownership.

How to read this page

These engagement models describe how I temporarily fill missing executive functions inside an organization — not how many hours I spend on-site. The distinction between models is defined by authority, decision ownership, and accountability, not by physical presence or delivery capacity.

Organizations engage me based on how much control, structure, and executive involvement is required at a given moment — not on a specific topic.

Each model represents a different way of embedding into the organization — not a different type of service.

The three engagement models

  • Model 1 — Embedded Executive: stabilization and direct control
  • Model 2 — Embedded Transformation Lead: structure, scale, operating model
  • Model 3 — Fractional Executive Advisor: direction, governance, perspective

Model 1 — Embedded Executive

Stabilization & Intervention

Typical situations where this model applies:

Role: acting as an embedded executive or program owner, with delivery accountability within an agreed scope.

Decision rights: direct authority within scope.

Intensity: high involvement, time-bound.

This model is not advisory work, PMO support, or a traditional consulting assignment. It requires line accountability and operational control.

Model 2 — Embedded Transformation Lead

From Execution to Operating Model

Typical situations where this model applies:

Role: leading cross-functional transformation work, embedding strategy, governance, and execution.

Decision rights: shared with the executive sponsor.

Intensity: medium to high, longer horizon.

This model is not a strategy project or a purely advisory role. It requires accountability for transformation outcomes.

Model 3 — Fractional Executive Advisor

Strategic Direction & Control

Typical situations where this model applies:

Role: serving as a trusted executive-level advisor.

Decision rights: advisory only.

Intensity: low and flexible.

This model provides strategic perspective without operational responsibility.

Choosing the right model
